Nursery Program
Nursery Program (4 weeks – 2 years) In the nursery room we understand that the first three years of a child’s life is the most important as the brain is laying the paths for future learning. We recognize that it is crucial for babies to be nurtured and loved and their every need attended to by warm responsive caregivers. Babies that develop strong emotional bonds with caregivers have lower stress levels and learning will not evolve until a child is happy and comfortable within their environment.
Our program works by; • Working in partnership with parents to form a picture and journey of each child’s development • Embarking on practical experiences through the child’s routine to extend upon their current or emerging skills. • The leading activity for learning between the period of 0-1 years is through emotional attachments and communication. Adults will extend upon spontaneous play through describing the child’s actions, singing little ditties and tunes and manipulating toys with the children. • Between the ages of 1-3 years the leading activity for learning is through manipulating objects Sensorimotor (seeing and doing) so we will extend upon children’s play through manipulating objects and role modeling. • Children are also starting to develop a sense of autonomy so the routine will be set up to allow children to develop self help skills. • We will set the environment up with core areas of- home corner, bock corner, manipulative toys and an outdoor physical area art activities will also be set up as children of young ages learn through tactile experiences • We will document children’s progress and daily extensions through the story of the day and children’s individual portfolio’s. • Learning stories in children’s portfolios will be linked to broad goals of all learning outcomes to evaluate children’s progress and developmental milestones.
