Our Centre Philosophy

(approved December 2005)

  • We promote an environment that supports an understanding that each family bring with them a wealth of opportunities for collaboration and partnership towards a shared goal of care and education. This will incorporate a family-centred approach with staff and other involved professionals.
  • The caregiver/educator will be friendly, caring, sensitive, flexible and have a keen sense of humour.
  • To provide an environment that values and supports strong positive relationships with families and the community. Staff will promote an “open door policy” to ensure families are able to participate on all levels of the centre’s operation.
  • To provide a friendly environment, where, through positive interactions, children feel safe and secure.
  • To respect all families’ child-rearing techniques, considering their cultural and religious beliefs and supporting the parent as the primary caregiver/teacher.
  • To provide an environment that portrays children as active, eager learners who have interesting ideas and valuable contributions to make. As children learn through direct experiences, we will offer opportunities for this.
  • To provide opportunities for children, families and staff to be involved in the decision-making process both by, gathering valuable information from families and using a variety of observational methods that allows an individual story of each child to develop.
  • To provide a responsive environment in which each child will develop their social, emotional, physical, language, intellectual and aesthetic skills thus becoming confident individuals with a high sense of self and a positive view of the world around them.
  • To foster children’s creativity and self-expression through art, language, music and many more experiences, with the emphasis on the process and not the end result.
  • To develop each child’s sense of self esteem by encouraging strong feelings of self worth - by making children aware of their own emotions and using positive teaching strategies to assist children to deal with these emotions in acceptable ways.
  • To allow children’s intellectual abilities to develop at their own rate.
  • To develop the children’s confidence in their physical abilities by providing activities which augment both fine and gross motor skills.
  • To ensure that the curriculum provides a flexible programme which will be age/stage appropriate for each child.
  • To offer children opportunities to learn about their environment and the world, in a non-judgmental atmosphere – taking into consideration multicultural communities, gender equity and disabilities.
  • To ensure children’s health, nutrition and physical care requirements are met, and that there are adequate provisions to meet these needs.
  • To ensure the rights and basic needs of all children are met so that they grow and develop to reach their true potential.
  • To aim for each child to receive high quality individualised care.
